Swedish massage is direct massage on the muscles, using long flowing strokes, deep kneading, surface friction, light tapping, and movement of the joints. Using oil or lotion, the muscles are contacted directly, using pressure and various body mechanics including the fingers, hands, forearms, and elbows. ‘Deep Tissue’ is a style of Swedish massage that requires a softening of the superficial tissues to enable access to the deeper structures. In a Swedish massage, the client lies on a massage table, covered by a sheet or towel, and each area of the body is undraped only when being worked on. |
